Business community has urged district administration to take effective steps against the excessive encroachments and illegal auto-rickshaws in order to overcome the growing traffic issues in the provincial metropolis. The demand was raised by a delegation of traders led by Markazi Tanzeem Tajiran Peshawar during a meeting with Peshawar Deputy Commission Islam Zeb at his office. Representatives of different unions of traders and police officials also attended the meeting and exchanged views.

The traders pointed out that the excessive pushcarts, auto-rickshaws was main cause of the traffic jams in the main bazaars and urged the administration to take decisive action against the encroachments. Traders' representatives said that the construction work on bus rapid transit (BRT) had created traffic issues and motorists had to use link roads for reaching their destinations which had led to traffic blockade and movement of the pedestrians had also become very difficult.

They suggested that traffic police should conduct a survey and shift the auto-rickshaws to alternate routes to avoid traffic congestion and inconvenience to the citizens. They also gave some suggestions to ease pressure on the existing roads. Similarly, traders also said that police and town municipal administration should take the traders' representatives on board while initiating anti-encroachment drive in any area of the district to avoid complications.
